If I’ve learned anything from attempting to design a logo for a blog, it’s that I’ve forgotten how to use Photoshop. Or GIMP in this case. Perhaps this is just me attempting to justify my mediocre artistic talent, but when you need to re-learn all the shortcuts and tools that you used to know, it makes even creating a simple logo concept an arduous process. But after trial and error, I have created the look that I want to try for this blog’s logo.
I present to you the first concept art for the official Bits by Brereton logo (hold your applause… if you even remotely felt the desire to, that is)
A little background behind the logo, I found an 8-bit inspired typeface that I liked and used the “B” of the font as the main focus of the logo.
It’s not perfect by any means, but I’m liking what I’ve managed to cobble together through GIMP and Paint. I wanted to go for that “Hipster logo” look, without actually doing that, as it’s a logo style been incredibly over done. There’s a great post on overdone cliches in logos which I both followed and didn’t follow. Maybe for the next concept I’ll use this incredibly difficult and broken “Hipster Logo Generator“. Seriously it’s almost unusable.
Anyway, what I would really like is some feedback. Even if you don’t read the blog on a regular basis and happen to stumble upon this post, leaving a comment with your thoughts would be much appreciated.
It will be a while before I actually add a logo to the blog, but this is something I hope to do by the end of the month.
I’m certain you’ll see more (terrible) design ideas soon.
