In mere hours the E3 2016 excitement kicks into overdrive with EA’s press conference on June 12th 1:00 PM PST. Although EA isn’t at E3 this year, their presser is considered to be the start of the E3 press conference circuit that goes from EA’s event and ends with Sony’s press conference Monday at 9:00 PM PST. Kadokawa Games, the parent company of several developers including From Software of Dark Souls fame, technically has an event after the Sony event, but I’m going to be too busy digesting everything I just saw. To say that I’ve hyped myself up for the five different conferences preceding E3 is putting it mildly. While leaks might have put a damper on some of the announcements that we were getting at this year’s events, there’s still plenty that we can make wild speculations about. What follows are some predictions I have for this year’s show. To make things interesting some of the predictions are going to be a little more outlandish. Though if I’m right, I’ll be super surprised myself.
Last Guardian release date
This one is simple. During Sony E3 press conference last year, one of the several big reveals was that Last Guardian was in fact not cancelled and would be coming in 2016. It is now 2016, and we still don’t have a solid date yet. Regardless as to whether or not they still meet their 2016 deadline, Last Guardian will most likely get an actual release date this year. Don’t screw this up Sony.
We’ll finally hear about Beyond Good & Evil 2… on Kickstarter
It’s been a while since we heard anything about the sequel to the cult classic Beyond Good & Evil. With Shenmue III’s success on Kickstarter last year, it showed that even major titles can generate a lot of interest if the fans are allowed to contribute towards making a new entry in a beloved franchise. Now, it was revealed that Sony was going to provide funding to the game separate from the Kickstarter campaign. However, the Kickstarter for Shenmue III was more of a market test than a need to generate money for the game.
Since there’s a large number of people (myself included) who would love to see Beyond Good & Evil 2 become a reality and it’s been forever since we heard anything, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took this approach the test the waters for the much-desired sequel. The game hasn’t been outright cancelled yet, but the last time we heard about the game was 2011. It’s time for some news, but perhaps not in a way we’re expecting.
Next Assassin’s Creed will take Place in during a World War (Not Egypt)
With every new Assassin’s Creed game there’s speculation over the next era the franchise will take place. Considering we won’t be getting an AC game this year and we haven’t heard anything about the next title, E3 is prime time to get the scoop on the next entry in the franchise. In fact predicting that the game will be announced would be boring, so I’m going to take a stab at guessing when the next game’s setting.
I’m ruling out the era of the upcoming film, as that would be too similar to the first game. I’m also ruling out the rumoured (and more likely) location of Egypt because I think there could be better locations. There are two time periods that jump to my mind, World War I and World War II. It’s clear that the series is becoming more modern with the recent foray into Victorian England. To me, the next logical step is to go to one of the World Wars. Specifically, World War II as there’s a lot of material to work with occupied Europe and all the activity going on around the world. It probably would have to take place before the major invasion towards the end of the war as demolished and bombed-out cities don’t make good parkour spots.
If I am right, and I seriously doubt that I will be, I’d be interested to see what they do with it.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Release Date
2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Final Fantasy VII. With the hype over the remake fuddled with the reveal of the game’s episodic nature, a release date (or rather release schedule) would be a great reveal for Sony as part of their press conference. It wouldn’t be a big item in their lineup, but considering all the focus on Final Fantasy XV, it would be a surprise to get any focus on FFVII remake.
Elder Scrolls VI
Leaks have revealed what most of us can expect from Bethesda’s E3 press conference this year, which is a downer considering how incredible last year’s event was. As exciting as the prospects of a Skyrim port, Prey 2, and Wolfenstein 2 are, the fact that we know that they’re possibly coming does ruin the impact a bit. With that said, you can’t help but notice it’s been five years since Skyrim was originally released. Fallout was the main event last year, but who’s to say that we’re not getting something big from Elder Scrolls.
I honestly think that if there’s a big surprise from Bethesda that hasn’t been mentioned yet, it’s Elder Scrolls VI. It might just be wishful thinking, but I’d love to see what the franchise would do for this generation considering the already colossal scale of Skyrim.
Just kidding, I’m not that crazy
Just have to wait and see
I’ll be surprised if I get any of these predictions right, hell I’ll be floored. But either way, I’m sure we’re in for a huge show this year and can’t wait to talk about it.
